If you’re reading this, you may have just heard of the coolest holiday of the year: “Ice Cream For Breakfast Day”. This national holiday takes place on the first Saturday of February every year and is an ice cream lover’s dream. If you don’t know what it is yet, don’t worry. We are here to help teach you everything about this holiday and the best ways to celebrate it.

What is Ice Cream for Breakfast Day?

Ice Cream For Breakfast Day is a fun and whimsical holiday where you celebrate the morning by eating ice cream… for breakfast. It was started in the 1960s by a mom in New York who was trying to find fun activities for her kids during a snowstorm when they couldn’t leave the house. A year later, during another February snowstorm, her kids reminded her that they were able to eat ice cream for breakfast the year before, and so the tradition continued. Now, ice cream shops across the United States celebrate the first Saturday in February with huge celebratory events early in the morning. If you live near an ice cream shop in the US, chances are, you can find a place to celebrate.

When is National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day?

National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is on February 3, 2024!

Is it okay to eat ice cream for breakfast?

While it may seem strange to some, there is no denying that ice cream is a beloved treat for many people. It’s sweet, creamy, and comes in a variety of flavors that are sure to please anyone’s palate. Eating ice cream for breakfast may seem like an unusual choice, but it’s a fun way to mix things up and to add a little excitement to your morning routine.

How to celebrate Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

There are a few ways to celebrate Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. The most obvious way is to simply enjoy a big bowl of ice cream for breakfast. You can also host an ice cream breakfast party and invite your friends and family to join in on the fun.

Our favorite way, though, is to celebrate at your favorite local ice cream shop. Shops everywhere spend months planning to make the morning of a special memory for everyone who comes to celebrate. You’re likely to find unique breakfast menus, activities, and prizes at the shops.

Andia’s Ice Cream for Breakfast Day tradition

At Andia’s, we love celebrating Ice Cream For Breakfast Day by collaborating with local small businesses to bring delicious, indulgent treats to our menu for the day. This year, we partnered with Tepuy Doughnuts to create decadent doughnut sundaes–a freshly-made, warmed doughnut with a scoop of ice cream sealed in it and toppings galore. We also celebrated kid-classic cereals with our Fruity Pebbles ice cream flavor and cereal milkshakes, plus of course a cold brew float for the parents!

One of our favorite things about Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is that we get to wear PJs to work, and our guests can roll up in PJs too. Everyone wearing PJs received a free “I had ice cream for breakfast” sticker, just because we could.

This year, we brought back our ice cream eating contests as well, celebrating a winner every hour. Our World Record Breaker at Andia’s for 2023 finished her double scoop with whipped cream and a drizzle in a mind-blowing 1 minute and 2 seconds! (Talk about a brain freeze!)

If we haven’t convinced you to join us for Ice Cream for Breakfast Day next year, just give it a chance and we promise it’ll be a day you won’t forget. This lighthearted holiday spreads joy and makes people happy, which is why we do what we do in the first place. So, next time February rolls around, don’t be afraid to ditch the eggs and toast, and opt for a big bowl of ice cream instead.

See you next February.

Love,

Andia’s
